Who are we

Dedicated to improving the lives of the poor in Rajasthan and working at the grass roots level for sustainable development in the Thar Desert, eight NGO's decided to combine their knowledge and experience and set up a body that would be able to conduct research and advocacy programs. They realized that awareness creation and knowledge generation should be a vital and integral aspect of their activities, and with this purpose HEDCON took birth in 1999. HEDCON believes that people need to be aware of their rights and responsibilities. Development organizations have to be aware of the root causes of the prevailing problems and must share their knowledge and research with other stakeholders and ultimately, the government must be forced to listen to the voice of their people.

HEDCON is an advocacy agency that provides technical expertise and capacity building measures to various social and development organizations. HEDCON seeks to influence the citizens sector and policy makers on relevant issues. HEDCON sensitizes and links organizations and institutions through peaceful Gandhian practices.

Guiding principles

HEDCON and its member organizations work on Gandhian ethics, which means working for the collective ascension of men, women and children, regardless of economic situation, caste or religion. Furthermore, HEDCON adheres to the Gandhian ideology that the key to the development of Indian society lies in the empowerment of its people.

Objectives

• To undertake research on various issues.
• To organize advocacy programs for policy change.
• To act as a support organization assisting other organizations in planning, documenting, monitoring, evaluating and fund raising for their development projects.
• To increase and improve the capacity of various organizations through the provision of training and the establishment of centers of knowledge and research.
